The trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil: The Final Chapter debuted today and… it looks like your standard Resident Evil flick. This movie is brimming with zombies, zombies, action, more zombies, a flying zombie dragon-moth type thing and of course the always gorgeous Milla Jovavich kicking all kinds of necrotic ass– like I said another Resident Evil movie. The new flick will follow Alice as she returns to Raccoon City to face the evil Umbrella Corporation, who have built up an army of monsters and undead to kill the remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
The movie trailer is really pushing the whole Alice-going-back-home-to-Raccoon-City angle. The trailer flows around an awkward edit of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Paradise City” and fast action cuts that honestly don’t look any different from the previous Resident Evil films. That pretty much sums up the whole franchise honestly– everything just sort of looks the same. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy these movies– in fact they’re great background noise: You don’t really have to pay attention to the story– you can pop your head up every once in a while and be slightly entertained by the visuals on screen.
Did we need another Resident Evil flick? Probably not, but why the fuck not, right? The Hollywood machines crank out shitty sequels all time, why not another, right? At least it’s a genre flick and not some young adult novel adaptation. //Arturo Padilla
