CRUEL HAND BRINGS THE PARTY TO THE METAL

I love it when a metal album lives up to the awesome cover art. Many times the art outweighs the music, but in the case of Cruel Hand’s new album Your World Won’t Listen, the awesome blend of thrash and hardcore complements the brutal cover art– the visual of the chained up flying dude is pretty awesome.
The album kicks off with the sound of a piano key that segues perfectly into some feedback, preparing the listener for the bombardment about to come. The first track of the album “Nowhere, Nothing, Never” blasts us with a hardcore tinted, thrash quickie that will get the blood pumping. The adrenaline rush is followed up by one of my favorite tracks on the album, the very catchy “Decompose.” Another one of my favorite tracks from the first half of the album is the punk inspired “Too Far From That.” The song has an addictive hook reminiscent of 90’s punk. The first half of the album is capped off by the title track “Your World Won’t Listen.” This song oozes old school thrash and hardcore. It’s an awesome track that nicely sums up Cruel Hand’s style of metal.

The song “Through With You” kicks off the second half of the album with a bang. Guitarists Brian Wilcox and Andrew Budwey keep the thrash riffs coming throughout the two and half minute head banging session. The hardcore gets turned up a notch with “Deep Six Hole.” With its Hatebreed-like tone, you can’t help but to fucking rock out during this track.  The mood gets lightened a bit with the track “In This Alone.” The track is aggressive but has a party metal feel to it, which makes this a fun sing-a-long track.  “Buried Inside” again showcases their great blend of thrash, hardcore and punk. Aggressive music with a hint of party mixed in, it’s just great.  The penultimate track “Liquid Paper” has some grunge tones thrown into the mix, displaying the range these musicians have– coherently and seamlessly jumping from style to style. The album ender “Threes” is a straight up hardcore track with a sweet outro lead guitar work. There is a hidden track 4 minutes into “Threes” that finishes off the listener with some classic punk tunes.

Cruel Hand’s Your World Won’t Listen is an awesome album. Guitarists Wilcox and Budwey, along with singer Chris Linkovich, bassist Seger Dailey and drummer Ryan Goff, have crafted a sweet metal record. It’s fun and just the right amount of brutal. Definitely party metal. With a length of only 30 minutes, this album is all killer no filler. //Arturo Padilla
