It’s been a good year for heavy music so far. We’ve seen some awesome comeback albums from bands like Walls of Jericho, Discharge and Dark Funeral. We’ve also gotten plenty of brutal music from some contemporary and upcoming bands like Joy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Ghoul and Volbeat– but ladies and gentlemen I’m here to tell you, the best is yet to come.
6. Every Time I Die– Low Teens– September 23, 2016
The follow-up to 2014’s excellent From Parts Unknown, Low Teens promises to deliver more of that signature hardcore sound the band has been able to hone over the course of their career. Can’t fucking wait!!!
5. SubRosa– For This We Fought the Battle of Ages– August 26, 2016
The Salt Lake City based experimental doom quintet is due to bring us more of their hypnotic heavy music. Based off the one track I’ve heard, “Wound of the Warden,” we’re in for a treat.
4. The Dillinger Escape Plan– Dissociation– October 14, 2016
Sad to say, this will be DEP’s last album release. The band recently announced they are calling it quits, but not before they release a new killer record and tour the hell out of it. So, boys and girls, if you haven’t seen DEP live, now is definitely the time to do so.
3. Vader– The Empire– November 4, 2016
Polish death metal gods Vader will be blessing us with more brutality this upcoming winter season. Empire is the 12th studio release for the band, and I’m hoping not much has changed.
2. Neurosis– Fire Within Fires– September 23, 2016
Post-metal legends Neurosis will be releasing their 11th studio album this fall. The album will include five brand new tracks from the band and will be produced by longtime collaborator Steve Albini.
1. Meshuggah– The Violent Sleep of Reason- October 7, 2016
FINALLY!!! It’s been four long years that we haven’t heard any new music from Swedish extreme metal band Meshuggah. The new album will come with almost an hour of new music and of course it comes with very cool album artwork. I can’t wait to hear the aural bombardment they have in store for us.
